Preservation is a way of storing digital objects to ensure that their quality and integrity do not deteriorate and that they can be accessed and used in the future. The preservation of the files containing the main document (full text of a scientific publication, image, etc.) is ensured in partnership with the Centre Informatique National de l'Enseignement Supérieur (CINES), a French public institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Research and Higher Education. The archiving platform (PAC) complies with the OAIS (Open Archival Information System) reference model.
The preservation of software source codes is ensured by Software Heritage, a non-profit multi-stakeholder initiative launched in 2016 by Inria and supported by UNESCO.
